I cant get my hair to curl with my straightener help!!?

i have had my hair done many times and the people would curl my hair with a straightener but i cant figure out how to do it. i looked it up online many times and tried it all different ways but my hair just wont curl! any tips? thanks. also i have a chi straightener if that matters
