Anyone know about surtsey?

Surtsey is a volcanic island that formed in 1967 (last eruption)off the coast of Iceland as part of the process of sea-floor spreading... thus a cone formed of tuff which is the result of explosive volcanism. Its maximum elevation is just over 154 meters. It was of particular interest to biologists who were eager to find out how long a newly formed island would take to start hosting life. They didn't have to wait long, for less than a day after it broke the ocean's surface, sea birds were landing on the rugged igneous basaltic rock. Today it is quite active (life-wise) with a large diversity of organisms both on its underwater slopes as well as the "dry" land surface.
